Leeds Pre-K Program Opens Up for the 2013-2014 School Year!
A note from our Superintendant...
We are honored to offer voluntary
pre-kindergarten to the students in Leeds for
2013-14. Our legislature and governor have committed to this program, and we
anticipate growing pre-K every year for our students.
The Board of Education would like to commend
Leeds Elementary assistant principal Lisa Shaddix for successfully writing the
grants. We would like to thank Rep. Dickie Drake for a $7,500 appropriation to
purchase supplies for this program as well as the Leeds Educational Foundation
for a $5,000 grant to help start this program for our 4 year olds!
A lottery will be held at Leeds Elementary
School on July 29 where 18 boys and 18 girls will
be selected for our two programs. Parents can pick a packet up beforehand at
the LES office.

Grant brings 180 iPads to Leeds City Schools!
A $50,000
grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission, along with another $30,000 in
additional federal funding and $20,000 from the Leeds school system will provide
180 iPads to Leeds schools.
There will be 30 of the devices in each grade from third through eight when school starts back in the fall, said Burke Wren, Coordinator of Curriculum Initiatives for Leeds City Schools.
The funding also purchased a mobile white board with a projector that teachers can use for classroom demonstrations. The remaining funds will be used to provide training for teachers.
Wren said the technology should help improve student test scores on state achievement tests and assist in improving math and grammar skills.
"When I told (Superintendent John Moore) I thought we had a shot at getting this, he said go for it," Wren said. "We're thrilled to have this."

Welcome!!
Welcome to the Leeds Education Foundation web site. We will keep you updated with new and exciting things going on in Leeds City Schools! The LEF's main focus is raising money and seeking donations that we can put directly back in the the classrooms. Every year, thousands of dollars are raised and given away as grants to deserving teachers. These grants are a gift from the community to the schools. This is a volunteer board consisting of parents, grandparents, citizens, former teachers - all who are active in the community and find joy in putting their efforts into the schools. Thank you for visiting, please stay tuned for updates!!
